The petition of Mathew Ferris of Newton Abbot, Devon, 30 September 1651

<Mathew Ferris petic[i]on & order>
To the Right wor[shipfu]ll Justices Assembled att this Generall Sessions houlden for the Countye of Devon.
The humble petic[ion] of Mathew Ferris of Nueton Abbett a poore Maymed Soldiar.
Humbly sheweth that whereas there was due vnto yo[u]r pet[itioner] att Michalmas Sessions Last past from Mr Christopher Woode then Treasurer for this Countye for and towards his paye the some of Tenn shillings: Yo[u]r pet[itioner] having Comaunded the monye of him every quarter since the detayning thereof: Notwithstanding hee refuseth the payem[en]t thereof:
The pr[e]misses Considdered yo[u]r poore pet[itioner] doe humbly intreat yo[u]r Wor[shi]pps to take his greviances into yo[u]r Sage and Judecious Considderation: and to grant yo[u]r Wor[shi]pps Order that soe hee may haue his due: And yo[u]r poore pet[itioner] as dutye bindeth shall daylie praye &c

<Att the Gaole garden neere the Castle of Exon the 30th of September 1651.>
<Ordered that Mr Christofer Wood shall before the next gen[er]all sessions to be holden for this County pay the Pet[itione]r Mathew Ferris the sum[m]e of Ten shillings menc[i]oned in this Petic[i]on vnles he can shew good cause to the Contrary att that tyme, w[hi]ch (in case he faile to pay the mony) he is required to doe>
