The petition of Mathew Dover of Rumboldswyke, Sussex, January 1652

To the Right honourable Judge Jarman Justice Humfrie and Justice Bowton and to the rest of the Justices of the Bench yo[u]r poore petitioner wisheth health and happines
Whereas yo[u]r poore petitioner Mathew Dover hauing beene in the last fight at Worster and after the fight was ended hauing a discharge from my captaine to come home & since my coming home I fell sicke and hauing pawned and sold all that I haue to supplie my wante in this my sicknes and I haue beene with the parish and they say that they cannott releiue me and I hauing a wife and two children and hauing nothing to supplie my wants and I hauing ventured my life for the Parliament & lying at this time vnder the Surgeons hands and not hauing wherew[i]th to content him I am neglected soe I would entreate yo[u]r worships that some speedie course may be taken that I perish not at this time for want as and if it please god to restore me to my former strength and health againe I trust in the lord I shall liue without beholding to any man soe desire yo[u]r Worships to take it into your considerac[i]ons and yo[u]r poore petitioner shal be bound to pray for yo[u]r healthes & prosperities and to keepe you out of the hands of your enemies
It is ordered yt xii d. a week penc[i]on be p[ai]d him & xx s. p[ai]d to Mr Rich[ard] Maun
Mr Wilshere must haue 10 s. for the Curing of this man.
