The petition of Mary Walker, Derbyshire, 13 January 1648

To the Honored the Committee for the County of Derby

The humble petic[i]on of Mary Walker late wife of Henry Clee who suffered att Wingfeild Mannor

Humbly sheweth

That yo[u]r petic[i]oner was left in much debt & six Children to maintayne but noe meanes to releiue them w[i]th all had not the Charity of well disposed people supplyed (in some measure) there wants in Commiserac[i]on whereof itt pleased this honored Committee to promise monys toward the payment of her said debts & maintenance, and all so that yo[u]r petic[i]oner should be freed from any taxes but the[y] are still imposed vpon her.

Wherefore shee humbly prayeth you wil be pleased that her taxes monys may bee freed & that shee may haue some monys what you in Clemency pitty & Compassion will allowe her, towards payment of her said debts her husband being much threatened for the same, and all so towards placing of her Children w[hi]ch are now reddy to bee putt forth. And shee wil be bound &c.

13 Ja[nuary] 1647

It is ordered by the Com[m]ittee that Mr Buxton pay ye petic[i]o[ne]r Twenty shillings.
