The petition of Mary Saby of Wisbech, Isle of Ely, 1662

To the Right wor[shipfu]ll the Justices of the Peace w[i]thin the Isle of Ely

The humble Petic[i]on of Mary Saby of Wisbech w[i]thin the Isle aforesaid widdowe on the behalf of her Grandchildren Mary, Anne, Deacon & Robert Rastall, children & Orphans of William Rastall.

Humbly Sheweth

That your Pet[itione]rs sonne William Rastall for his loyalty to his late Ma[jes]tie of ever Blessed memory and to his Ma[jes]tie that nowe is was by the bloodthirsty people of the late tymes unjustly put to death and murdered.

That yo[u]r Pet[itione]rs sonne at the tyme of such his death left behind him his wife (whoe is since dead) and theis foure Orphans aforesaid w[i]thout p[ro]vision of maintenance for them, whereby your petic[i]oner was enforced (as by charity she was bound though beyond her ability) to provide for his wife while she lived, And, ever since the death of her sonne shee hath brought up and educated Mary & Deacon, and is enforced still soe to doe to the great damage and hardship of the Pet[itione]r. And the other twoe Anne & Robert have ever since the death of their Father been p[ar]tly maintained by the Parish of Wisbech.

The humble suite of yo[u]r petic[i]oner to yo[u]r wor[shi]ps is that yow would be pleased to allowe unto her for thus of her said Grandchildren Mary, Anne, Deacon & Robert Rastall such a reliefe for their future provision , livelyhood and maintenance As to your wor[shi]ps shall seeme meete. And your petic[i]oner shall pray &c.
