The petition of Mary Phipps of Harmondsworth, Middlesex, c. 1648

To the Hono[ura]ble Committee of the Countye of Buckingham
The humble petition of Mary Phipps the poore distressed widdowe of Henrye Phipps deceased.
Sheweth
That your petitioners husband Henrye Phipps was a souldier vnder Captayne Phipps in the service of the Parliament about the space of three yeares, in all w[hi]ch time he receiued little or noe paye, but did spend most of his owne meanes to maintayne himself in that imployment, and at his death left your petitioner and in a very poore and desolate estate, great with child of w[hi]ch being since deliuered shee is in great want of meanes to releiue herselfe and her child.
She therefore humbly prayeth this hono[ura]ble Committee to grant her such arreares as were due her said husband for his true and faithfull service, to releiue her and her child being by the losse of her said husband brought vnto a poore and deplorable Condition, & shee will daylye pray for your prosperitye.
I Emanuel Hodges minister of Harmondsworth in the Countye of Midd[le]s[ex] doe know and can testifie that Henrye Phipps was a souldier under Captaine Phipps in the service of the Parliament, and that he died here at Harmondsworth and left this Petioner Mary Phipps his wife great w[i]t[h] child of w[hi]ch she is since delivered, and that shee and her child are in very poor estate
