The petition of Mary Hankinson of Stockport, Cheshire, Trinity 1652

To the right wor[shipfu]ll the Justic[e]s of the Peace for the County Pallan[tine] of Chest[e]r.

The humble Petic[i]on of Mary Hankinson, late wiefe of Raph Hankinson late of Stockport deceased.

Sheweth

That yo[u]r Pet[itione]rs said husband for divers yeares past hath served the States as a private Soldier, and being in Collo[ne]ll Duckenfeild his Regim[en]t of Foot in the Garrison at Chest[e]r was one that was allotted and drawne foorth of the said Regim[en]t for the service of Ireland; where in hee continued aboue one yeare vnder Com[m]and of Captaine Done in Collo[ne]ll Venables his Regim[en]t. Where the service being very hott and sharpe and all necessaries very scarse, yo[u]r Pet[itione]rs husband was brought into a weakenes and lingering sicknes where of aft[e]rwards hee dyed, By reason whereof being disabled from the said service Major John Duckenfeild (in the absence of the said Collo[ne]ll gaue him a Lett passe for England where soone aft[e]r his comeing over hee dyed of the said sicknes leaveing yo[u]r Pet[itione]r a poore widdow w[i]th two small Infants and not any meanes to maintayne and keepe her selfe and them withall but very likely to bee exposed to great want and misery vnlesse yo[u]r wor[shi]pps please to pitty this her sadd Condic[i]on.

In tend[e]r Considerac[i]on of the premisses yo[u]r Pet[itione]r humbly prayeth that yo[u]r good wor[shi]pps would be pleased to sett downe some Order (as in yo[u]r wisdome shall seeme most meet) whereby yo[u]r Pet[itione]r may receiue allowance towards relieueing her selfe and infants (her husband looseing his liefe in the States service as aforesaid) who are otherwise very likely to liue in great misery. And yo[u]r Pet[itione]r will pray for yo[u]r wor[shi]pps health and happines.

Wee whose names are subscribed doe very well knowe the Pet[itione]r and humbly desire that her sadd Condic[i]on may bee taken into Considerac[i]on
