The petition of Markes Weekes of Drewsteignton, Devon, 1694

For the Right Wor[shipfu]ll their Ma[jes]ties Justices of the peace for the County of Devon now assembled in the Generall Sessions:
The Humble Petition of Markes Weekes of the p[ar]ish of Drusteington sheweth
y[ou]r petic[i]oner served his Ma[jes]ty Kinge Charles the First of Blessed memory as a foott souldier vnder the Command of Captaine Bartholemew Gidleigh, & Captaine Clarke for the space of two years & vpwards, & never deserted his Ma[jes]ties service but was very active in the Seige of Plymouth & Exeter & by severall Hardshipps received much damage & severall Wounds and being now growne old and Feeble Humbly desireth the usuall benevolence of this Court in such cases, & your petic[i]oner as in duty bound shall ever pray.
The petic[i]oner is well knowne vnto us some of the p[ar]ishoners, & we doe believe this Petic[i]on to be true.
