The petition of Margarett Platt of Rainow, Cheshire, Trinity 1661

To the ho[noura]ble Bench his Ma[jes]ties Justices of the peace in Quoram at their monthly meeting

The humble petition of Margarett Platt of Ranow widow

<Humbly sheweth>

That yo[u]r petition[e]r had two sonnes John Platt & Samuell Platt that in the late tyme of Warre went with Mr Henry Legh their Captaine vnder maior Vrian Legh in the Regim[en]t pf S[i]r Edward Fitton, And at Newbury yo[u]r petition[e]rs sonne John was slayne in his ma[jes]ties service, And her sonne Samuell, that was alife in her lease, (through seu[e]rall wounds & bruises that he gott in the said tyme of warre gott his death also, and soe yo[u]r petition[e]r hath not onely lost her children that were deare to her and tender of her, but also her outward meanes of subsistance w[hi]ch depended on their liues. And soe yo[u]r petition[e]r is left in a very sadd condic[i]on very aged and her husband & children that were a help & comfort to her are taken from her and her meanes loose in the landlords hands, and she not able to deale with any of it being verie poore

May it therefore please this ho[noura]ble Bench to take yo[u]r petition[e]rs sad condic[i]on into yo[u]r pyous & Christian considerac[i]on to allow her some yearely pent[i]on amongst other distressed widows to be some relei{f} to her in her ould age

And herein you will eu[e]r engage yo[u]r petition[e]r to pray &c

This poore widdows Condition is very sad & deplorable occasioned much by ye death of her sonnes in his ma[jes]ties service, as is above expressed
