The petition of Margaret Hamilton, residence unknown, 9 August 1653

To his Excellencie the Lo[rd] Generall Fleetwood
The humble petic[i]on of Margarett Hamilton widow the Relict of Robert Hamilton late Lieut[enant] to Cap[tai]n Norwoods troupe and Administratrix of his goods and Chattells
Humblie sheweth
That there is the summe of 22 li. 13 s. 04 d. due vnto the Officers of the said Troupe for seaven monethes allowance for Carriage money And a warrant was graunted vnto your petic[i]oners said husband to receave the same vnder the hand of S[i]r Hardress Waller; As by the said warrant herevnto annexed appeareth; But your petic[i]oners husband, before hee could receave the said money, was slaine in the service, leaving your petic[i]oner a poore distressed widow, with a charge of children and destitute of maintenance
Shee therefore humblie praieth that your Excellencie wil be pleased to give order, that shee may receave payment of the said summe, either out of the Treasurie att Tredagh or otherwise, as your Excellencie shal be pleased to appoint
And your pet[itione]r shall pray &c.
I Desire Mr Edward Roberts would Consid[e]r of this petic[i]on & Draw vp an [illegible] a warrant Accordingly August 9: 1653.

The with in warr[an]t being made payable to Leiu[tenan]t Hamelton he being dead and p[ai]d mony of right belonging to all ye Com[mission]ed offic[e]rs of ye troope it is not legally ye widdowes whole Right neither is it according to ye Course of paym[en]ts for woman to receiue monys on acc[oun]t for paym[en]t of other offic[e]rs yett in being who haue noe way left in case of non pay but to recouer ye same at Comon law & besids I conceiue yt ye Tre[asur]ers at Warr can not safely pay monys vpon ye aforesaid acc[oun]te offic[e]rs being in being I therefore

thinke yt ye warr[an]t ought to be made in a Comiss[ion]ed offic[e]rs name in behalfe of himselfe & ye others conserned, or else your Ex[cellen]cie to appointe a 3d pe[r]son in whose name ye warr[an]t is to be made & to pay each one conserned his p[ro]portion, other wise ye widdow may haue a warr[an]t signed for her owne p[ro]portion, if she please all which is humbly tendered to your Lordshipps Considerac[i]on
