The petition of Luke Lamskin of Stockport, Cheshire, Easter 1654

To the right Wor[shipfu]ll the Justic[e]s of the Peace & Quor[um] for the said County:
The humble petic[i]on of Luke Lamskin of Stockport in the said County Cowp[er]
<Sheweth>
That yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r (soe often as hath beene requisite) and when therevnto Comaunded hath serued the Comon Wealth as a Foote Souldier That att the Fight att the City of Worcester hee serued as a foote Souldi[e]r in the Regim[en]t & vnd[e]r the Comaund of Col[onel] Henry Bradshawe where amongst the horse in the Battle there hee was soe Bruised & hurt That never since then hee hath beene able to followe his said calling: By reason whereof both hee his wiefe & Six smale Children (who were formerly mainteyned only by the Petic[i]on[e]rs paines and Industry) are fallen into Extreme Want & misery and very likely to Starue vnlesse yo[u]r Wor[shipfu]lls accordinge to yo[u]r accostomed clemency to Wounded Souldi[e]rs wil bee pleased to take this his Sadd Condic[i]on into yo[u]r most serious Considerac[i]ons
The premisses Tenderly considered yo[u]r Petic[i]on[e]r humbly prayes That yo[u]r wor[shipfu]lls would bee pleased To sett downe some Order (for his reliefe) as in y[ou]r wisdomes shall seeme meete wereby hee may bee admitted Penc[i]on[e]r for & towards the reliefe of himselfe & family And in soe doeing y[ou]r petic[i]on[e]r According to his bounded duty
will ever pray &c
