The petition of Katherine Wright of Bolton, Lancashire, Midsummer 1658

To the Wor[shi]pp[fu]ll the Justices of the peace att the Sessions att Manchester in ye County of Lanc[aste]r

The humble petic[i]on of Katherin Wright of Bolton in the County of Lancaster Widdow:

Humbly

Sheweth

That your petic[i]oner being a poore widdow whose husband was slaine att the takeing of Boulton (by the Prince) in the service of the Comonwealth and left behinde him your petic[i]oner and seaven smalle Children the most of all your petic[i]oners estate being att that time taken by the enimie to the vtter vndoeing and impoverishing of your said petic[i]oner and her children: And nothing left her but a poore Cottage w[hi]ch shee bought with her owne moneyes before shee married her dec[eas]ed husband w[hi]ch said Cottage your petic[i]oners husband did Assigne upon her shortly after their Marriage: w[hi]ch Assignement your petic[i]oner hath in Custody: of Late your petic[i]oner hath beene beene [sic.] incumbred with one George Seddon of Rumworth: who pr[e]tending a Tytle vnto the said Cottage came in att the backside of the said Cottage with 2 Bayliffes and forced your petic[i]oner out of the said Cottage: since w[hi]ch time the said George Seddon hath set the said Cottage vnto one William Seddon of Bolton

May it please your Worshipps therefore to Consider of you [sic.] poore petic[i]oners sad Condic[i]on and to grant an Order Whereby the said George and William Sedon may Come before your Wor[shi]pps to give an Accompt vpon What scoare they hold the said Cottage from your s[ai]d petic[i]oner

And your petic[i]oner will ever pray &c
