The petition of Katherine Lumbart of Hereford, Herefordshire, 1666 to 1667

To t{he Righ}t Wor[shi]pfull Hugh Rodd {Mayor of the} Citty of H{ereford} and his Ma[jes]ties Jus{tices of the Peace} of The said Citty.
The humble petic[i]one of Katherine the Late w{ife} of Thomas Lumbart of this Citty widd[ow] aged Three sco{re and} seaventeene years or There abouts.
Humbly sheweth vnto yo[u]r Good Worr[shipf]alls That {your pet}ic[i]oner and her Late husband haue beene Ever Faithfull {illegible} To his Ma[jes]tie of Blessed Memory and to ye Kinge yt Nowe {is and for their} Fidelity weare often and seu[er]all Tymes Plundered & their {illegible} violently Taken from Them: and yo[u]r poore petic[i]oner did in ye tyme {illegible} ye Scotts Lay before ye Citty Actually and p[er]sionally adven{tured} {illegible} {f}or ye defence thereof which is not vnknowne To most of ye {illegible} is very aged & decrepitt not able To worke neyther has shee {illegible} or waie to helpe or realiue herselfe, And haue beene {illegible} {inhabi}tant heere in this Citty aboue Thirty yeares & haue paid Lott in {illegible} of paym[en]ts as longe as shee was able. But Nowe is fallen Into {grea}te pou[er]ty & want, And Therefore doe most humbly beseech yo[u]r worr[shipf]all {cl}eamenty & Comisserac[i]one In this her said mysserable & deplorable Condic[i]one, And yt yow would bee pleased to Grant her whoe haue beene A Good Liuer some Mainteynance & Realiffe Till ye next hospitall yt Falleth & in the Interime to allowe her somethinge Weekely To helpe to Realiue her In this her Greete need, Necessity, Mysery and p[er]plexity.
And yo[u]r poore petic[i]oner shall as In duty nound Ever pray For yo[u]r Good worships healthes and Happinesses In This world and yo[u]r Eternall happinesses In The world To Come.
