The petition of Katherine Legge of Taunton, Somerset, 12 July 1653

To the Right Wor[shipfu]ll the Justices of the peace nowe assembled at the gen[er]all Session of the peace holden at Taunton Castle for the County of Som[e]rsett.

The humble petic[i]on of Katherine Legge of Taunton widdowe

<Shew[e]th:> That yo[u]r petic[ioner]s husband was heretofore a Fightinge soldier for the p[ar]liament a In the Late warrs and was in the latte laste siege ag[ains]t the said Towne killed in the said service and yo[u]r petic[ione]r neuer receaued any recompence but only 3 li. And further shew[e]th that vppon the death of yo[u]r petic[ione]rs husband yo[u]r petic[ione]r w and her two small Children whereof one is sithence dead was left in a verry sad condic[i]on to her vtter undoeinge:

Yo[u]r petic[ione]r doth therefore humble pet pray yo[u]r wor[shi]pps to be fauorably pleased to graunt yo[u]r order whereby that yo[u]r petic[ione]r may haue some yearely penc[i]on whereby yo[u]r petic[ione]r and her Child may be releeued thereby:

And she shal bee Euer bound to pray &c.
