The petition of Katherine Crum of Plymouth, Devon, 3 August 1649

To ye Right honorable ye Judges of Assizes &c
The humble peticion of Katherine Crum, wid[ow]
Humbly sheweth,
Unto your honours that your peticioners husband was a long tyme a souldier in the Parliament service and was slayne in the said service, leaving your peticioner very poore, much indepted, & A charge to maintayne And hath nothing where uppon to Releive herselfe and her Charge but that w[hi]ch shee gets by her dayly labour, besides your peticioners husband had five pounds due to him for his service at his decease w[hi]ch yo[u]r peticioner could never have.
Now forasmuch as your poore peticioner is very much distressed & knows not how to subsist, she humbly desires yo[u]r hono[u]rs to take into consideracion her sad & wofull condicion, & that out of yo[u]r clemency itt will please your honours, to grant your peticioner some thing towards her mayntenance, & your pet[itione]r shall dayly pray for yo[u]r Good successe heer & Ever lasting happiness heer after &c
<I desire the Justices of the Peace att theyr next quarter sess[ion]s, and the too next Justices or either of them in the meane tyme to take speedy order for the relieffe of the poore pet[itione]r & her children, as by the statutes and ordinances of P[ar]liam[en]t is required.>
