The petition of Katherin Milborne, residence unknown, 10 December 1642

<The humble petition of Katherin Milborne, widd[ow].>
To the right Ho[noura]ble the Earle of Manchester and –
To the right honorable ye Committee for the safetie of the kingdome:
The humble petition of Katherin Milborne the poore distressed widow of Mathew Milborne deceased
Sheweth
That your petitioners said husband was Ensigne vnder Cap[tai]n Palmer in the now Earle of Manchesters regiment as by Comission from his Excellencie dat[ed] 30: July: 1642: doth appeare
That at Edghill hee was beaten downe and stripped; & receaving there some hurt in his body; and finding his health thereby {?muche} impaired did procure leave about a moneth since, to returne from North {illegible} to London; and being come home, fell sicke and died on New Yeares Eve: leaving y{our} {petitioner} a very poore widow, bereft of his life and trade & charged with a greate family, without meanes, relief, or comfort: shee having consumed all her estate in furnishing him in his place & relieving of him in sicknes, only xii li. xii s. remained due to him for 3 moneths pay as yet vnstaisfyed: & yo[u]r pet[itione]r is also like to be thrown out of her howse for want of paym[en]t of her rent.
Wherefore yo[u]r petic[i]oner most humbly praieth yo[u]r L[ordshi]pps to take the widowes distressed estate into consideration, and that yow would be pleased to give Order for payment of the said money to yo[u]r pet[itione]r for the relief of her and hers; that they may not perish through famin
And shee shall pray &c:
