The petition of Katheren Wright of Bolton, Lancashire, Easter 1653

The Humble petic[i]on of Katheren Wright of Boulton widdowe
May it please your good wor[shi]ps with patience and the eyes of pittie to pervse the Subsequent lynes which shall really and truely impart vnto yow the distressed and dolefull condic[i]on of yo[u]r poore petic[i]oner. Soe itt is that att such tyme as when Boulton was taken by Prince Rupert yo[u]r petic[i]oners husband was then slaine which extended to the vtter vndoeinge of her & hers & shee beinge Threescore and Ten yeares of age and vpwards is now lefte in a Sadd & Lamentable condic[i]on & noe meanes to subsist withall and whereas moneys hath beene distributed to other widdowes in the like nature, shee benige [sic.] ould and feeble was not able to Trauell for it as other did soe nowe is like to starue & famishe for want of pr[e]sent subsistence shee beinge exposed to greate miserie, want and Indigencie,
Her humble desire therefore is that yo[u]r good wor[shi]ps would commisserate and pittie her sadd condic[i]on and to helpe her with some releeffe that shee maye receiue paye as other widdowes haue donne and likewise that shee may bee releeued for soe much as behind, whereby to preserue her lively hood The act is Charitable and vndoubtedly by gods mercy requitable, Therefore praieth yo[u]r wor[shi]pps helpe & assistance herein and as in dutie Bond yo[u]r petic[i]oner shall ever pray for your health & hapines long to Continewe.
