The petition of Julian Vildew of Whimple, Devon, Michaelmas 1648

For his Ma[jes]ties Justices of the Peace, or to whom this shall come.
The Humble Petic[i]on of Julian Vildew of the parish of Whimple in the County of Devon, widowe
In most humble manner complaining sheweth unto yo[u]r good wor[shi]pps that about the beginning of the breaking out of the rebellion in the kingdome of Ireland, yo[u]r peticioners husband together with his sonne went as Volunteers into the said kingdome of Ireland for the Parliament service, in w[hi]ch kingdome yo[u]r peticioners husband was in service most Infortunatelie slaine, leaveinge yo[u]r peticioner an aged, decrepite and poore widowe, haveinge nothing at all left her wherewith to subsist and not able to get her maintenance by reason of her age and fayling of her sight, yo[u]r pet[itioner’s] humble request therefore is in consideracion of the pr[e]misses that sume allowance might be given yo[u]r said pet[itioner] (out of the monyes that is nowe to be paid out of the parish of Whimple towards the reliefe of maimed Souldiers and Souldiers widowes & children) according to an ordinance of Parliam[en]t in that case made & provided, whereby to relieve this yo[u]r said pet[itioner] in her old age, And yo[u]r pet[itioner] will as she is in duty bound ever pray for yo[u]r wor[shi]pps health & happie pr[e]servacion of the same.
