The petition of Joseph Hunniatt of Hereford, Herefordshire, 1661 to 1662

To the Wor[shi]ppfull James Lawrence Esq[ui]r[e] Maior of the Citty of Herefford and to others the wor[shi]ppfull Magistrates, and Com[m]on Councell of the said Citty
The humble petic[i]on of Jospeh Hunniatt of this Citty Cuttler Chardged with a wife, and three small Children:
Humbly Craueinge, in regard and for that yo[u]r petic[ion]er is a Freeman of the said Citty allwaies really affected for his late Ma[jes]tie of euer famous memory, & att yo[u]r petic[ione]rs owne proper Costs and Chardges furnishing himself with muskett, sword, and other Armes for his Ma[jes]t[y]s seruice, that nowe is; Tradeing being dead with yo[u]r petic[ione]r and all things att an hard rate in soe much that yo[u]r petic[ione]r is scarce able to gaine moneys to relieue his greate Chardge, And therefore yo[u]r petic[ione]r humbly Craueth yo[u]r wor[shi]pps order for a pr[e]sent graunte of parte of that pious Legacy bequeathed vnto this Citty by Mr Harper heretofore of the said Citty dec[eased] for placeing of young Children Aprentices to Trades within this Citty for a future Liuelihood to place a yong youth of yo[u]r petic[ione]rs of the Age of abouts ten or eleauen yeares Ap[re]ntice; haueing a former graunte thereof in the tyme of the Mayrolty of Thomas Paynard gent[leman]; but waned in respect the property of the said Mr Harpers money was then in question at Lawe; And therefore yo[u]r petic[ione]r Craueth a Confermac[i]on thereof p[er] Cur[ia] from yo[u]r wor[shi]pps
And hee will daily pray for yo[u]r wor[shi]pps good healths & happines long to continue &c
