The petition of John Zeale of North Molton, Devon, 15 July 1684

To the Hon[ou]r[a]ble Lewetennants & his Gratious Ma[jes]ties Comisshion[e]rs for the County of Devon Comisshioned for the Reliefe of those who have served his Ma[jes]tie in the late Warrs at ye Castle of Exon in & upon the 15th day of July Anno Dom[ini] 1684
The humble peticion of John Zeale of Northmolton within the County afores[ai]d humbly sheweth unto yo[u]r Hon[ou]rs that yo[u]r poore orrat[o]r hath for divers years past Loyally & faithfully served his Sacred Ma[jes]tie King Charles the first of ever blesed memory, under the Command of Collonell Amyas Pollard in the late unhappie warrs in which yo[u]r petition[e]r received many sore wounds Espetially in his head together with Sharp Imprisonm[en]t whereby yo[u]r poore petition[e]r has been ever since very Infirme in his body & in a great measure disinabled to gett a livelyhood for the relief of his poor wife & famaly, being aged & ye violency of his paine Increasing
The pr[em]ises Considered the Humble request of yo[u]r petition[e]r is yt yo[u]r Hon[ou]rs out of yo[u]r pious Clemency will afford yo[u]r petition[e]r such share of his Ma[jes]ties bounty & in such manner as in yo[u]r Hon[ou]rs wisdome shall be thought fitt for ye relief of yo[u]r poor petition[e]r & sad Famaly and yo[u]r petition[e]r as in duty bound shall ever pray for ye Increase of yo[u]r Hon[ou]rs felicity not only here but heareafter
