The petition of John Williamson of Rudheath, Cheshire, 21 January 1651

To the ho[noura]ble Ser George Booth k[nigh]t & Barr[onet] and other the Justics of Peace for this County assembled at the quarter sessions at Knutsford the 21th day of January 1650
The humble petic[i]on of John Williamson of the Lordship of Rudeath cu[m] Drakelowes
Humbly sheweth
That yo[u]r pet[itioner] hath for many yeares paste liued in the lordship of Rudheath cum Drakelowes and hath demeaned himselfe civilly and fairely amongst his neighbourhood {wi}thout beinge troublesome to any. And hath beene ready vpon all occac[i]ons to serue the Com[m]on wealth and is nowe in actuall service vnder the com[m]and of Cap[tain] Walley in the regiment of Collonell Croxton sett forth by the said towne. But nowe soe it is may it please this ho[noura]ble Bench to be informed that yo[u]r pet[itione]r in respect he wanted a present releife of a house for his wife & child is like to fall into a sad condic[i]on vnlesse releiued by your good hono[u]rs
The pr[e]misses tenderly considered & forasmuch as yo[u]r pet[itioner’s] wife was borne in the s[ai]d Towne & yo[u]r pet[itioner] hath the assent and concurrence of the whole lordship &c humbly prayes that hee may bee admitted to erect a Cottage within the said lord[shi]pp.
And yo[u]r pet[itione]r as in duty bound
Will eu[er] pray &c
May it please this hon[our]able bench to bee Informed that at the Court houlden for the said lord[shi]pp in october last past the petition[er]s Cause was debated And yt was then and there desired by all the Inhabitants then pr[e]sent that the petic[i]on[er] might haue a place appointed to Erect a house vpon and a place Called the broken Crosse was then agreed vpon that this hon[oura]ble bench would bee pleased to send order for the same

<Apud Neither Knuttesford 21o Januar[y] 1650 referred to Col[onel] Croxton to Caus examyne the truth of the pet[iton] (and gaineinge the Lords Consent) then to erect a Cottage.>
