The humble petition of John Whittle of Eastham in the County of Chester
<Sheweth>

That yo[u]r pet[itione]r in the late warrs did both actually and faithfully serue the Kings Ma[jes]tie, of blessed memory as a souldyer vnder the com[m]and of Col[one]l Gamull and in his owne Regim[en]te, and at Rowton Battell was there dangerously cutt and wounded w[i]th a pole Axe in his face and sholder and seu[er]all other parts of his body and shott through his thigh at Carlott in Wirrall when the long boates came from Liu[er]poole to Eastham and alsoe did bear Armes vnder the comand of S[i]r William Stanley of Hooton ag[ains]t the L[or]d Lambert at Wich by reason of w[hi]ch afores[ai]d seu[er]all wounds together w[i]th old age he is now become very feeble and weak, and thereby altogether disabled to follow his vocation of a labouring man, to his vtter ruine and impoverishm[en]te, being destitute of all meanes of a liuelyhood whatsoeu[er], insomuch that he laies vpon the dayly charity of well disposed people haueing a wife and fiue small weakly children.

That yo[u]r poore pet[itione]r did alwayes continue his loyalty to his Ma[jes]tie and did never adhere to the enemyes of his Loyall Sou[er]aigne

He therefore humbly imploreth yo[u]r hon[ou]rs to take the pr[e]misses into yo[u]r graue and tendor considerac[i]ons and be charitably pleased to admitt yo[u]r poor pet[itione]r one of his Ma[jes]t[ie]s pentioners otherwise yo[u]r pet[itione]r his wife and five children will be exposed to a very sad and deplorable condic[i]on.

We whose names are subscribed doe certifie the contents of this petition to be truth and doe recom[m]end him to yo[u]r hon[ou]rs, as a meet and fitt object of yo[u]r charity to be admitted one of his Ma[jes]ties pentioners.
