The petition of John Tree of Sidbury, Devon, 1 January 1673

To the hon[ou]r[a]ble Bench his Maiesties Justices of the Peace of the Said County now Assembled and mitt together
The humble petition of John Tree of Sidbury in the said County Husbandman
Most humbly
Sheweth
That yo[u]r poore petiti[one]r was a soldyer seuerall yeares together for his Maiestie Kinge Charles the first of Euer blesed Memory vnder the Com[m]and of Captaine Mananch of Colonell Abslys Regiment: and beinge in the seige ag[ains]t Lyme Regis yo[u]r petiti[one]r was Maimed in Axminster in the said County: And beinge of a most sad and deploreable condition and not able to help himselfe and no cure to be had: was sent by the said Officers order from tythinge to tythinge vntill he was brought home to the said p[ar]ish of Sidbury & from thence was by the said Com[m]anders Order sent by the p[ar]ish[ione]rs of Sidbury to his Maiesties Hospitall: but neuer had to this day any cure: but remaines still in a very sad condition: Allso yo[u]r poore petic[ione]r haueinge a Wife and sixe small Children: & by reason of his said Lamenes is not any way able to maintaine them as otherwayes he might: Allso your petiti[o]n[e]r was never in any other seruice, but in the said Kings Maiesties seruice: for the better liuelyhood of your poore petiti[o]n[e]r his Wife & Children in theire sad Condition
doe most humbly begg yo[u]r Wor[shi]ps to take yo[u]r poore peti[tione]rs sad condic[i]on into your most wise & pious considerac[i]ones & grant that your petitinoure may haue his antient pention continewed for the better livelyhood of himselfe his wife & poore Children And your poore petitin[e]r shall as he is bound in dutie euer pray for his Mai[es]t[y’]s & your Wor[shi]ps health & prosperity & Euer rest your most humble & obleidged servant
