The petition of John Thomas of Hereford, Herefordshire, 3 October 1661

To the Right Wor[shipf]ull the Mayor and the rest of the Comon Councell of and for the Cittie of Hereff[ord]
The Remonstrance and further Petic[i]on of John Thomas {the} Poore blinde man whoe when hee had his sight was a Souldier for his late Ma[jes]tie here in the s[ai]d Cittie and elsewhere in England & Ireland and is now destitute of relief for him & his familie whoe doth most humbly
Shewe
That yo[u]r pet[itione]r did [illegible] make his redresse seu[er]all tymes to yo[u]r good wor[shi]pps to haue relief form[er]lie, & hath had some hopes to haue itt graunted from yow in respect of his blindenes povertie & service as afores[ai]d done for his Ma[jes]tie
Wherefore yo[u]r pet[itione]r most humbly pray that yo[u]r good wor[shi]pps would be pleased to take his sadd Condic[i]on into Considerac[i]on and revive yo[u]r form[er] Clemenie towards him, whereby a place the next that falls may accrewe vnto him According to the tenor of his former petic[i]ons & that by yo[u]r good Wor[shi]pps Order if graunted vnder yo[u]r good wor[shi]pps hands for ye Confirmac[i]on of the same And yo[u]r pet[itione]r in soe doeing will ever be bound to pray for yo[u]r good wor[shi]ps propseritie long to contynue.

It is ordered by the Court that John Thomas the peticoner shall haue the nex Almeshouse that doe fall in the maior and Justices power to graunte shal be bestowed on the peticoner
