The petition of John Sutton alias Gibbins of Charlton, Northamptonshire, Easter 1674

To the right wor[shi]pfull his Ma[jes]ties Justices of ye Peace for the County of North[amp]ton[shire]:
The Humble Petic[i]on of John Sutton al[ia]s Gibbins in the Parish of Newbottle cu[m] Membris.
Humbly Sheweth.
That yo[u]r Poore Petic[i]oner served his late Ma[jes]tie (of Blessed Memory Charles the 1st) in the late warrs in the Garrisson of Banbury Castle in the Regim[en]t of the right Hono[ura]ble James Earle of Northampton in S[i]r William Comptons Company of foote, and In the said service receiued severall wounds w[hi]ch hath disinabled him for worke, towards his maintenance, in Considerac[i]on whereof, this Ho[noura]ble Bench was pleased for some tyme to allow yo[u]r Petic[i]on[e]r a Penc[i]on of (50 s. p[er] Annu[m]). (to bee p[ai]d him by the treasurer for the west Division of this Countye.) But hath byne taken of ever since Capt[ain] Harbye was Treasurer.
Now yo[u]r Poore Petic[i]on[e]rs humble Prayer to this Hono[ura]ble Bench is that yo[u]r wo[rshi]pps woulde bee pleased for to Consider the poore Estate of yo[u]r s[ai]d Peticoner (hee being much disabled from worke by reason of his Paine & Lameness occassioned by his said wounds, and haueing a wife and fower smale Children vnable to helpe themselues, is like to bee Exposed to a very Lamentable Con[i]c[i]on vnles some way releived by this Hono[ura]ble Bench, either by renewing of yo[u]r s[ai]d Petic[i[on[e]rs Penc[i]on or otherwise as to yo[u]r grave wisdomes shall seeme meete.
And yo[u]r Petic[i]on[e]r & wife & Children shall euer Pray &c.
The petition[e]r to haue 30 s. att q[ua]rterly paym[en]ts the first paym[en]t to bee made att this Sessions by the Treas[ure]r of the west devision
