The petition of John Shawe of Congleton, Cheshire, Epiphany 1666

To the right hon[oura]ble and right wor[shipfu]ll his ma[jes]ties Justices of the peace for the County Pallatyne of Chester.
The humble petic[i]on of John Shawe of Congleton in the said County.
Humbly sheweth
That yo[u]r petic[i]on[er] in the late vnhappie Warrs serued as a faithfull Souldier and Loyall subiect vnder the Com[m]and of Colonell Edward Fytton k[nigh]t deceased and vnder the Com[m]and of Captaine [illegible] <Richard> Greene. And for that yo[u]r poore petic[i]on[er] hath continued his Loyaltie and allegiance faithfully to his Ma[jes]tie duringe all the time of the late rebellion and vsurpac[i]on and was imprisoned seu[er]all times for his Loyalty to his Ma[jes]tie whilest hee was in that seruice both at Couentrie & Namptw[i]ch besides his great sufferings to the vtter vndoinge of him his poore wife and Children, and hath not complyed with the late vsurped powers.
Yo[u]r peti[ti]on[er] therefore humbly prayes that hee may by yo[u]r Order bee admitted pention[er] vpon the County and that hee may receiue such an annuall sume and pention for the reliefe of him his wife and Children as you in yo[u]r wisdoms shall thinke fitt, And your petic[i]on[er] as in duty bund will euer pray. &c
