The petition of John Rippon of Warton, Lancashire, Midsummer 1674

To the Right Worsh[i]p[fu]ll his Ma[jes]tys Justices of peace and Quor[um] att the quarter Sessions held att Lanc[aste]r this day.
The humble petic[i]on of John Rippon of Warton:
Sheweth
That yo[u]r poor petic[i]on[e]r haueing faithfully served his late Ma[jes]ty of Ever blessed memory as a Soldier, and continued Loyall in and to that Service, and haueing thereby sustained seu[er]all harmes by Greevous wounds and imprisonm[en]ts as by his officers Certifficate ready to be produced, doth appeare and whereas yo[u]r s[ai]d poore petic[i]on[e]r hath for some late time rec[eive]d an allowance of 13 s. 4 d. yearly out of the Moneys seised for the vse of the poore maimed Soldier in this hundred, But now by reason by of his Age and seu[er]all infirmities in his sight and body being not able to follow any Calling or Labour whereby to help to maintaine himselfe and his poore wife whereby hee is reduced to great want and poverty;
The premisses considered may it please your good wors[hi]pps to comiserate the sadd and deplorable Condic[i]on of your said poore petic[i]on[e]r and ord[e]r him some addic[i]onall allowance out of the Moneys yearly raised for the vse afores[ai]d w[hi]ch he humbly conceaues y[o]w may doe in regard there are seu[er]all p[er]sons dead whoe formerly rec[eive]d allowances in the same kinde, and yo[u]r poore petic[i]on[e]r as in duty bound will Ever pray &c:
