The petition of John Pontin of Warminster, Wiltshire, undated

To the right Wor[shipfu]ll the Justices of the Peace of the County of Wilts[hire]
The humble Petic[i]on of John Pontin of Warm[inste]r in the County aforesaid Taylor
Sheweth
That yo[u]r Pet[itione]r having faithfully served ye Parl[ia]m[en]t ever since the beginning of these warres, first vnder ye Com[m]aund of S[i]r Ed[wa]rd Hungerford secondly vnder the Com[m]aund of Collonell Ludlowe in Ward[e]r Castle, & was Carried thence to Oxford prison[er] and after his Coming out of Prison was vnder the said Coll[one]ll in this County & at a fight in this Towne he was most desp[er]atly wounded & left for dead, which wounds nowe soe much grieves yo[u]r Pet[itione]r that he is vtterly vnable to take any Course either for the mainten[a]nce of himselfe his wife or Children whose livelyhoods formerly depended on his Labo[u]r & must nowe totally p[er]ish without the clemency of yo[u]r good Wor[shi]pps
Therefore humbly prayes that in considerac[i]on of his faithfull service to the Parl[ia]m[en]t & his sad Condic[i]on wherein he nowe is by reason of his said wounds to allowe him such a yeerely p[ro]porc[i]on out of the Com[m]on Treasury of this County as to yo[u]r Wor[shi]pps shal be thought meete
And he shall ever pray &c
