The petition of John Piers, Denbighshire, 13 July 1658

To the Right Wo[rshipfu]ll the Justices of Peace att this p[re]se[n]t q[ua]rter Sessions held for the said County
The humble Petic[i]on of John Piers Lately admitted Maymed Souldier
Humbly Sheweth
T{ha}t yo[u]r petic[i]on[er] hath hereto fore petic[i]oned your wor[shi]pps of his povertye haueing a wife & many small Children to maynetaine and haueing nothing to mayntaine them being maymed in the late warrs applyed himselfe to yo[u]r wor[shi]pps formerly And yow were pleased to order him 40 s. a yeare with a promise yt whenever any penc[i]on[e]r dyed or was removed yo[u]r pet[itione]r should bee further Considered
May it please yo[u]r hono[u]rs to vnderstand that one of the Penc[i]oners Sarah John remaynes a married woeman Though all along shee was accepted of To bee a penc[i]on[e]r as a widdow, but now trueth being discou[er]ed, humbly beg yo[u]r pet[itione]r may haue his small penc[i]on augmented according to youre Wor[shi]pps discression out of her former allowance
And hee as in duty bound shall ever pray &c.

Ordered yt Sarah vz John her penc[i]on of iii li. be taken off because [illegible] she confessed herselfe to be marryed & that xx s. thereof be hencefourth q[ua]rterly payd by the Tre[asure]r to John Piers Penc[i]oner as an addic[i]on to his former penc[i]on & that the xl s. residue thereof be to satisfie such penc[i]oners as are now in arreare & vnpayd.
