The petition of John Pane of Barrow, Cheshire, 11 September 1676

To this Honourable Bench
The humble Petic[i]on of John Pane now Aged fourscore & one having a wife & children
Humbly declaring yt whereas in all ye Civil wars I was a souldier under Colonel Marrow, Major Phillips, and Capt[ain] Prigeos, till the time they were some of them unhappily slain And the rest dead and have been a great sufferer according to my condic[i]on and have ever been true & faithful to his Majestie and never desired any relief till now I am past my labour: was I now any thing able to work I should not be so troublesom to this hono[u]rs Bench. So yt in all humbleness I beg and crave yt you will consider me as the rest of my fellow souldiers and grant yt I may have a releif according to my necessity,
and yo[u]r humble Petitioner shall as in all duty bound ever pray for you &c
