The petition of John Lambert, William Herbert’s Regiment, 1 June 1648

To the hono[ura]ble the Committee for the Army.
The humble petic[i]on of John Lambert
Sheweth
That yo[u]r pet[itione]r faithfully served the State as a foote Souldier vnder ye com[m]aund of Leiv[tenan]t Collonell Thomas Read in the regim[en]t of Col[one]l William Herbert, for w[hi]ch there is much in Arreare due vnto him as by Certificate will appeare.
That at the Leagues of Ragland Castle yo[u]r pet[itione]r rec[eive]d many wounds, whereof he hath long languished and at present lyes vnder Cure in the Savoy Hospitall as likewise will appeare.
Now Forasmuch as yo[u]r pet[itione]r is vtterly disabled for future service, or a livelyhood, having lost ye vse of his limbes, And for that he hath rec[eive]d noe part of his arreares for the said service, but is like to p[er]ish, vnles releived by yo[u]r Hono[u]rs
Hee therefore humbly prayes this hono[oura]ble Com[mi]ttee to be pleased to take his sad Condic[i]on into yo[u]r pious and charitable considerac[i]on & to order him paym[en]t of his arreares, (or such p[ar]te thereof for his present releife As to yo[u]r hono[u]rs wisdomes shal be thought most fitt).
And hee will pray &c
