The petition of John Kay of Bury, Lancashire, 23 July 1678

To ye Right worshipfull his Ma[jes]ties Justices of the peace at their [illegible] Sessions holden [illegible] in Rumworth ye 23d day of July Anno d[o]m[i]n[i] 1678.
The humble petic[i]on of John Kay of Bury in the said County, Labourer
Humbly sheweth
That yo[u]r petic[i]oner faithfully serued his late Ma[jes]tie (of euer blessed memory) Charles the first) vnder the Command of the Right hon[oura]ble James late Earle of Derby, in Capt[ain] Keys Troope and hath Received maney wounds in the said Seruice as yo[u]r petic[i]oner well hopeth can make to appeare, And Neuer deserted the same nether then nor since:
Now yo[u]r wor[shi]pps said petic[i]oner makes it his humble Request, he being antient, and not well able to mentaine him selfe, whilst he was able not willing to be troublesome to any, This being the first time of yo[u]r petic[i]on[er]s complaint, humbly Craues that yo[u]r Wor[shi]pps would be pleased to order yt yo[u]r poore petic[i]oner might Receuiue the Salleary of twentie shillings a yeare, in Regard of his seruice age and other necessaties.
And yo[u]r petic[i]oner will euer pray &c
