The petition of John Hussey of Wrenbury, Cheshire, Epiphany 1652

To the right wor[shipfu]ll the Justices of ye Peace & Quoru[m] att the Quorter [sic.] Sessions for the County Palatine of Chester
The humble pet[i]c[i]on of John Hussey a wounded souldier
Humbly sheweth
That yo[u]r pet[i]c[i]oner beinge a very poore man, haueing a wife & two smale Children liueinge w[i]thin the p[ar]ish of Wrenbury serued as a private souldier, in the Reagim[en]t of Col[one]l Thomas Croxton Esq[uire]: & vnder the Comm[an]d of Capt[ai]n Hugh Whitney vppon this last Expedic[i]on against the Scotts att Worcester Att the Enteringe of w[hi]ch Towne he recea[ve]d a wounde by an ennimie through his neacke & a cutt on the head as alsoe a blow ou[e]r the reanes of his backe w[i]th the butt ende of A musket, w[hi]ch putte[t]h him to grate extreamitie, so that yo[u]r petic[i]oner is noe wise able to acquire his liueinge, nor to doe any thinge towards the mentenaince of his Charge.
The pr[e]misses Considered yo[u]r poore petic[i]oner humbly prayeth yo[u]r good worships to take into yo[u]r Considerac[i]on his distressed Condic[i]on in allowinge him som mentenance: what this wor[shipfu]ll Bentch shall thinke Convenient, towards his releife, & he as duty binds him will eu[er] pray &c
