The petition of John Hughes, Denbighshire (3), c. 1662 to 1667

To the Honourable and worshipful Justices of the peace w[i]thin the County Denbigh.

The Humble petition of John Hughes shewing vnto yo[u]r Honours that he hath been a shoulder in the late warres in {the} regement of S[i]r Charles Davis a Colonel and haueing served vnder the s[ai]d Colonell about a yeare and a halfe and after was listed vnder Collonel S[i]r Tho[mas] Salusbury yo[u]r poore petitioner was taken prissoner att Nasby Battle being then misarably wounded, was shott thorow the legge, and was taken prisoner into Lester towne and there kept in a woefull Condic[i]on a long tyme May it please yo[u]r Honours to comisserat his Indigentcy and to amitte yo[u]r poore petitoner to haue a Compitent share of the maymed shoulder mize accordenig to yo[u]r extended clemency to the like obiect whoe never revolted to any other, but did continue faythfull vnto the end yo[u]r petitioner was vnder the Command of Collonell Thomas and Maior Winn of Lanvair and Leiftenant Gethin when he did receaue this wound and many other [?skare] and abuses by long imprison[en]t And yo[u]r poore petitioner shall Ever pray.
