The petition of John Hine of Kington St Michael, Wiltshire, Michaelmas 1667

To the right wor[shipfu]ll his Ma[jes]ties Justices of the peace now assembled in Marleborough at Mich[aelm]as Sessions 1667.
The humble petic[i]on of John Hine of Kington St Michaells.
Sheweth: that whereas your pet[itione]r spent about three yeares time in his late Ma[jes]ties service as a soldyer vnder the com[m]and of Captaine Henry Thynne since deceased; and by reason of much lying out on the ground & other Extremityes then suffered, hee is now in his old age growne soe benummed & stiffe in his limbs that hee is almost disabled for any labour: and having lately lost his Father whoe was Vicar of Kington aforesaid, and the onely support of him and his Family, hee is now fallen into greate poverty and soe like to continue; & vnlesse this Court looke charitably on his sad condition.
It is therefore prayed that the Pension of 40 s. p[er] Ann[um] formerly granted vnto Thom[as] Everard his fellow Soldyer & lately deceased, may bee allowed vnto your pet[itione]r during his life; and also some present supply towards his greate necessity, and the speedy repaire of his poore habitation which will otherwise shortly fall to the ground:
And your Pet[itione]r shall ever pray &c
Wee whose names are subscribed Inhabitants of Kington p[ar]ish doe hereby affirme the substance of the Pet[itione]rs complaint to bee true: and doe humbly desire that hee may be releeved:
