To the ho[noura]ble Col[one]l Brookes Col[one]l Croxton, Barron Bruen Col[one]l Gerrard, Col[one]l Berkenhead, Captaine Whiteworth and Captaine Partington and the rest of the ho[noura]ble Comanders now or in the late warrs for the Com[m]on wealth of England within the County of Chester &c
The humble pet[ition] of John Griffith
<Sheweth>
That yo[u]r pet[iti]o[ne]r was twelue yeares in the service of the said Com[m]on wealth in the late warrs in Tarvin Garrison and else where and was plundred of all his estate and meanes of Livelihood by the occasion of the s[ai]d warrs, And was an Officer for the Collecteing and gatheringe in of all kind of provision for the Garrison of Tarvin vntill the reducement of Chester which was for many yeares.
That yo[u]r pet[itione]r is now growen Aged dim of sight lame of his limbs and not able to doe service as formerly and that hee hath an Aged woman to his wife, and att this pr[e]sent both of them remaine in a very sad and deploreable condic[i]on and are like to p[er]ish vnles yo[u]r hon[ou]rs releeife in comisserac[i]on & pitty of theire pouertie bee extended to them.
Yo[u]r poore pet[itione]r humbly prayeth yo[u]r ho[noura]ble fauor and pious considerac[i]on that you would bee pleased to make your poore pet[itione]r one of the pention[e]rs in yo[u]r hono[u]rs seu[e]rall hundreds for his releeife, or otherwise as in yo[u]r hon[ou]rs pious wisedomes shal bee thought meete
