The petition of John Greene of Blackrod, Lancashire, 21 April 1659

To the Wo[rshipfu]ll] Justic[e]s of Peace and Quoram Att A Sessions of Peace houlden Att Manchester in the hundred of Salford the 24 21th daye of Aprill Anno Do[min]i 1659
The humble petic[i]on of John Greene of Blackrode in the County of Lancaster, Sive Maker.
Sheweth that where as your poore petic[i]oner in theese sadd and late tymes of warr hath aduentered his liffe as A Souldiar in the States seruice for manie yeares by past both in England Scotland and Ireland, And that hee hath A poore wiffe And A Compenie of Smale Children, w[hi]ch was borne and brought vpp in Blackrode afforesaid And that the said Petic[i]oner hath still lived Together w[i]th his wiffe and Children in the said Towne of Blackrode for the space of Twelue yeares last past saveinge the tyme hee was out in the said States service, And now by reason of ill Tradinge And great charge of wiffe and Children, hee the said Petic[i]oner is fallen into greate pouertie and want of Releefe, And want of howsinge, both for himselffe, his wiffe and Children, And further alsoe the said Petic[i]oner hath formerly had seu[er]all orders for howsinge and releefe both for himselffe and his familie, but non of them were neuer as yett obeyed.
The Petic[i]oners desire to your Wo[rshi]pps is To grant him such An order vnto the Churchwarden and such other [illegible] men of Blackrode afforesaid as hee this Petic[i]oner will nominate vnto yow for the Inabelinge of the said Order and Churchwarden to the intent that that the said Petic[i]oner may haue howsinge and releefe both for himselfe and familie, As in your wo[rshi]pps discreation yow shall thinke most meete, And hee this Petic[i]oner as in dutie bound will dalie praye &c.
