The petition of John Goodwin, Wiltshire, Hilary 1653

To the Right Hon[oura]ble the Justices of ye Peace for the Countie of Wiltes[hire] setting att Sessions
The humble petition of John Goodwin a maimed Souldier
Most submissively sheweth
That your Petition[e]r formerly lived in the said Countie from whence hee went forth into the Parliaments service and there hee lost part of both his feet besides hee received divers others wounds and beeing ordered by the Lord Gen[era]ll Cromwell and Leiu[tenan]t Gen[era]ll Fleetwood Colon[e]ll Dove and S[i]r John Danvers to bee provided for according to the tenor of the late Act in that behalfe provided Your Petition[e]r havinge a wife and Children and beeing greatly impoverished and no Friends to assist him in this his present necessityes
Your Petition[e]r most humblie beseeches yo[u]r Hon[ou]rs to take the premisses into your graue and pious considerac[i]on and in favor to order releife to his present necessities & some future pension according to the late Act of Parliam[en]t aforesaid and to the said Lord Gen[era]lls request ready to bee shewen vnto yo[u]r Hon[ou]rs
And your Petic[i]on[e]r (as in duty bound) shall ever pray for your Hon[ou]rs continued health

The Th[reasur]er of maymed souldiers of the north p[ar]t of this County is to allowe the Petic[i]on[e]r for pr[e]sent towards his releiffe 3 li. And the Peticion[er] to satisfie the Sess[ion]s at what place he tooke vp armes in this County before he desiers a penc[i]on to be allowed him & this by his owne consent.
