The petition of John Garnet of Gressingham, Lancashire, Midsummer 1651

To the Right Wor[shipfu]ll Justices of the peace of the Sessions at Lancaster.
The humble petic[i]on of John Garnet of Grisingame.
Sheweth
That yo[u]r pore petic[i]oner beinge an ould man and his wife an oulde woman wanting releife and had their sonne pressed to be a Souldior for the States service, from which sonne they had theire releife and mentenance, he beinge gone yo[u]r peticoner is not able to subsiste, Justice Sawrey promised that wee should not wante releife which I doubt not but he will see the same performed.
May it theirfore please yo[u]r worshipps for to take the premisses into your graue consideracons and to alowe unto yo[u]r pore peticoner such releife as you in yo[u]r wisdoms shall thinke fitinge & yo[u]r pore peticoner will euer pray.
