The petition of John Freeberry, Sussex, January 1653

To the Right Wor[shipfu]ll Justices of the Peace for the west part of the Countie of Sussex
The humble Petic[i]on of John Freeberry
<Humbly sheweth>
That your poore petic[i]oner was for severall yeares a souldier in the States service w[i]thin the Garrison at Chichester and was severall times drawne forth to Edge hill Basing howse Worster Arundle and in the west vnder the Com[m]and of Colonell Grantham Leiftenant Colonell Bodley and Maior Clarke in w[hi]ch service your poore petic[i]oner receiued diuers wounds and bruisses and hath since had a great fitt of sickenes by w[hi]ch weakenes he hath been constrayned to sell p[ar]te of that little goods he had to mayntaine himselfe wife and three smale children and is not able of himselfe to provide for himselfe or them
His humble petic[i]on to your Honnors is that you would be pleased out of your goodnes to consider the sad weake and wounded Condic[i]on of your poore petic[i]oner and to graunt your order that he may haue such a yearely Stipent out of the money Collected for that purpose as may helpe to support him in the maintenance of himselfe and family
And he and his shal be bound to pray etc.
