The petition of John Ferryman of Hinton Parva, Wiltshire, Michaelmas 1670

To the R[igh]t Wor[shi]ppfull his Ma[jes]t[y’]s Justices of the Peace now sittinge att the Gen[er]all Quarter Sessions of the Peace in Marlebrouge in and for the County of Wiltes[hire]

The humble Petic[i]on of John Ferryman of Little Hinton in the said County Labourer

Most humbly sheweth

That yo[u]r Petic[i]on[e]r was a Souldier in the Service of his late Ma[jes]ty King Charles the first of ever Blessed memorye wherein he receaved severall wounds in his bodye soe that he hath ever since beene very much disabled for Worke & Labour to mayneteine himselfe his wife & family butt is likely to p[er]ish if not Relieved by yo[u]r Worr[shi]pps Order

And that about fiue yeares & a halfe since yo[u]r Petic[i]on[e]r vppon his humble supplicac[i]on to yo[u]r Bench att the sessions of the Peace then held att the Devizes in this County was by the Co[u]rt Ordered to be paid an yearely penc[i]on of forty shillinges p[er] Ann[um] Quarterly by the Treasurer for the North p[ar]te of this County for maimed souldiers & mariners which yo[u]r Petic[i]on[e]r duely rec[eive]d vntill last Mich[aelm]as Sessions when he was denyed the same by the then Treasurer because he had not renewed his Order afores[ai]d. As by the same order Appeareth being hereunto Annexed

But nowe soe it is may it please yo[u]r Wor[shi]ps that yo[u]r Petic[i]on[e]r is informed his name is not entred in the booke of Orders according to the Rule of Co[u]rt aboue menc[i]oned soe that he is denyed to haue any Reliefe till that be effected

May it therefore please yo[u]r wor[shi]pps the pr[e]misses considdered to graunt vnto yo[u]r poore Petic[i]on[e]r yo[u]r Order for his Reliefe & Pension according to the former Order And that the same may be duely entred And yo[u]r Petic[i]on[e]rs have his Pension that is now arreare & behind being twenty shillinges for a yeare ended this pr[e]sent Mich[aelm]as be p[ai]d by the Treasurer for the North p[ar]te of this County

And yo[u]r Petic[i]on[e]r shall ever pray &c.
