The petition of John Edwards of Llandwrog, Carnarvonshire, 1659
To the Right wor[shipfu]l the Justices of the Peace assembled at this pr[e]sent Quarter Sessions holden for the County of Carnarvon.
The humble petic[i]on of John Edwards.
{Sheweth that} y[ou]r peticoner (about two yeares since) was prest out of {the parish} of Llandwrog in this County to goe into Ireland as a soldier for the service of this Com[m]on wealth where yo[u]r petic[i]oner served vnder the Commaund of Col[one]l Hughson, vpon w[hi]ch se{r}vice yo[u]r petic[i]oner by a musket shot lost his left hand {at} a place called Manooth.
Wherevpon yo[u]r petic[i]oner (being altogether disabled voyd of meanes to subsist of any further to get h{is} l{i}ving without the vse of his hande) did petic[i]on yo[u]r wor[shi]p{s} at the last gen[er]all sessions of the peace for some small allowance towardes his maintenance, w[hi]ch petic[i]on yo[u]r wor[shi]ps were graciously pleased to take into Considerac[i]on & p[ro]mise to remember him this pr[e]sent Sessions, He therefore
Humbly prayeth that yow will be pleased to looked vpon his deiected estate, & Condic[i]on, being destitute of friendes & meanes of reliefe (except he be assisted by yo[u]r wor[shi]ps) & to give some order for his future maintenance. And he shall (as in duty bound) dayly pray &c.
