The petition of John Edwards of Horningsham, Wiltshire, 8 April 1662

To the right wor[ship]full the Justices of the Countie of Wiltes[hire] assembled att the Quarter Session att Deuises the Eighth of Aprill 1662.
The humble petic[i]on of John Edwards of Horningesham in the Countie of Wiltes[hire]
Sheweth That yo[u]r petic[i]oner (For his love and loyaltie to the late kings ma[jes]tie) was a Souldier in his Armie in the Regiment of the righ [sic.] ho[noura]ble the Earle of Carnarvon vnder the com[m]aund of Colonell Alexander Standish As appeareth by a Certificate vnder the hands of Roger Barton (a quarter m[aste]r) and divers others whoe were souldiers in the same Regiment and are all nowe dwellinge att Storton in this countie of Wiltes[hire]. And yo[u]r petic[i]oner never tooke vpp Armes but in his late Ma[jes]ties behalfe. In whose service hee was wounded in his bodie and shott in his lefte arme and suffered much afflicc[i]on (Those tymes affordinge him (as such hee was) but little comfort
In considerac[i]on whereof hee humbly desireth yo[u]r wo[rshi]pps to be pleased to graunt him some allowance for his better mainten[a]nce and subsistance as in yo[u]r Judgements shall seeme meete And hee shall daylie pray for yo[u]r health and prosperitie.
