The petition of John Day of Little Bowden, Northamptonshire, 18 May 1667

To the right wor[shi]p[fu]ll his mai[es]ties Justices of the peace for the County of North[amp]ton[shire].
The humble petic[i]on of John Day of Little Bowdon in the County aforesaid.
Humbly sheweth
That whereas vpon a former Petic[i]on and Certificate to the wor[shi]pp[fu[ll] Francis Lane Esq[ui]r[e] one of his mai[es]ties Justices of the peace for the County of North[amp]ton[shire] being then Treasurer for the Goale and maimed Souldiers his worr[shi]pp was pleased to give yo[u]r peticoner the graunt and promise of a yearly stipend or Penc[i]on of three pounds in the presence of John Cockayne of Rushton Esq[ui]r[e] and Thomas Halford of Little Bowdon gent[leman] in recompence of his faithfullnes & loyalty in the service of his late mai[es]tie of blessed memory In which service he also rec[eive]d many dangerous wounds and suffered seu[er]all tymes imprison[en]t for his constancy to his King and Country whereby he was & is disenabled to follow his calling and soe reduced to great wants as by his said Certificate more at large may appeare Yet notwithstanding the premisses moneys falling short yo[u]r Petic[i]oner hath rec[eive]d but Forty shillings the yere ever since
Wherefore yo[u]r poore Peticoner humbly prayes that yo[u]r worr[shi]pps would be pleased to take the premisses and the sad Condic[i]on of yo[u]r poore Peticoner into yo[u]r serious considerac[i]on and that in regard he hath not enioyed the said penc[i]on of three pounds p[er] annu[m] yo[u]r worr[shi]pps would be pleased to continue his said pen[sion] of Forty shillings haveing now greater need then ever
And yo[u]r Peticoner shall Ever pray.
