The humble petic[i]on of John Cowsey of Manchest[e]r leivetenent to Captaine Byrom
<Humbly> sheweth unto your good wor[shi]ppes that yo[u]r petic[i]oner is very aged and impotent to witt about the age of 80 yeares and hath been in his ma[jes]ties service many yeares and by reason of such his age and impotence reduced to extreme want and paverty [sic.] and is necessited humbly to petic[i]on yo[u]r wor[shi]ppes for competent relife without w[hi]ch yo[u]r orator is like to famish haveing never had any relife from the towne
Yo[u]r Petic[i]oner
Humbly prayes yo[u]r good Wor[shi]ppes the pr[e]misses Consid[ere]d to grant vnto him such relife as to you shall seeme reasonable and yo[u]r petc[i]oner as in duty bound shall ever pray &c
