The petition of John Cotes senior of Whiteparish, Wiltshire, 14 January 1662

To the Right Wor[shi]pp[full] his Ma[jes]ties Justices of the {peace} of Wiltes[hire] Att the Generall quarter Sessions hold{en at New} Sarum the 14th day of Jan[uary] in the 13th yeare of the {Reign of our} Lord Charles the second of England &c. Anno Dom[ini] 1661.
The humble Petition of John Cotes sen[ior] of Whitep[ari]she in the sayd County
Humbly sheweth:
That you [sic.] Poore petitioner aged 60 yeares & vpward was in the seruice of the late kinge vnder the Com[m]and of the Lord Hopton in his owne Regiment 3 yeares and vpward And was dangerously wounded in the seige agai[n]st Taunton in the County of Somersett And allsoe your petitioner hauing Two horses Taken from him by the enemy: worth 11 li. and vpward and alsoe your petitioners house was plundered and Certaine goods taken from him of Linnen pewter &c to the vallue of 5 li. & vpward to the greate impouerishinge of your poore petitioner
Iff therefore itt shall please this Wor[shi[pp[full] Court to take your poore petic[i]oners Condic[i]on into your serious Considerac[i]on as to allow him some pention your petitioner shall euer pray
for your Wor[shi]ps health and happines
