The petition of John Cooper of Hornby, Lancashire, 8 October 1661

To the hono[ura]ble and wor[shi]p[fu]ll his Ma[jes]ties Justices of the Peace and Quorum at the Quarter Sessions at Lancaster holden this 8th day of October 1661 the humble Petition of John Cooper of Hornby whoe humbly
Sheweth.
That whereas yo[u]r hono[u]rs petitioner in this last rebellious warrs, by an vnparaleil’d and stiff necked people against their soueragine [sic.] and sacred king, did in opposition of those Rebells out of his cordiall loue and bounden duty and faith to his late dreade Soveraigne of blessed memorie, take vpp armes vnder the com[m]and of S[i]r John Girlington and others and freely ventured his life, lime, and worldly fortunes, for his good King in that warre, and was theirin shott through his Thigh and receiued other dangerous wounds and sore hurtes beesides long and sadd Imprisonments whereby yo[u]r petitioner (haueing a great charge of children) is rendered wholy vncapable to liue, without some speedie and pr[e]sent releife
May it theirfore please yo[u]r hono[u]rs for the future animation and Incorragement of his Ma[jes]ties good and loyall subiects, and in tender commiseration of yo[u]r distressed petitioner and whole family, the premisses considered to take care for your petition[e]rs help and releife as in yo[u]r hono[u]rs wise Judgements and compassionate Charity you shall thinke most meete and yo[u]r hono[u]rs poore petitioner will humbly and earnestly pray for all yo[u]r good healthes and happinesse &c.
