The petition of John Coombe of Bradninch, Devon, 1686

To the Right Honnor[a]ble his Ma[jes]ties Justices of the Peace in & for the County of Devon at the Castle of Exon.
The humble Petition of John Coombe of Bradninch
<Sheweth>
That yo[u]r Pet[itione]r served King Charles the first as Corporall of horse under the Command of Capt[ain] Tarrant in S[i]r John Berkeley’s Regim[en]t & a Serjeant of Foot under the Command of Capt[ain] Isaac [in] the Regiment of S[i]r John Ackland in w[hi]ch said Services he received severall wounds & for the same had a penc[i]on allowed him by yo[u]r honnors of 4 li. p[er] Ann[um] but in the last Dutch Warr was reduced to 3 li. p[er] Ann[um] that by reason of his many wounds rece[ieve]d & disability thereby in getting his Livelihood he is reduced to greate Poverty & want.
Hee therefore humbly praies yo[u]r honno[u]rs that he may be restored to his former Pention of 4 li. p[er] Ann[um].
And as in duty bound he shall ever pray &c
