The petition of John Casse of Buntingford, Hertfordshire, 23 April 1688

To the Right Wor[shi]pp[fu]ll his Maj[es]ties Justices of the peace at the Quarter Sessions for the County of Hertford
The humble Petic[i]on of John Casse of Buntingforde in the County of Hertford
Sheweth
Whereas your Petic[i]oner was a very loyall & faithfull subject to King Charles the first of blessed memory and listed a souldier in his service at Colchester under the com[m]and of Captaine John Taylor for w[hi]ch he was Plundered of all his goods and imprisoned to the ruine of himselfe his wife and children all which his sufferings being made known to the Justices of the Peace for this County since the Restoration of his late Maj[es]tie they did by Order of Quarter sessions appoint your Petic[i]oner Governour of the house of Correction at Buntingford w[hi]ch Office he did well and truely Execute and discharge until he was unduely Imprisoned w[i]thout conviction of any Crime committed by him and detained in the Goale at Hertford until such time that he gave Recognizance w[i]th suerty to Leave the said House of Correction or to Returne againe to his imprison[en]te contrary to the Lawes & statuts of this Realme and dureing that Time & Ever since hath been allwayes loyall to the late and present King that now is wherefore
Yo[u]r Petic[i]oner humbly prayes that your Worshipps would be pleased to consider the sufferings of your poor Petic[i]oner his wife and children their povertie and his illegal usage for his Loyalty & that you would restore him to his Office of Governour of the said house of Correcc[i]on.
And he shall Ever pray as in duty bound &c.
