The petition of John Browne of Foston, Lincolnshire, 1683

To ye Honorable Justices of ye Peace for ye p[ar]tes of Kesteven
The Humble Petition of John Browne of Foston being a poore distressed Soldier of his late Majestyes Charles ye first of ever blessed memory Sheweth
That yo[u]r poore Petitioner out of his Loyalty and Obedience to his King and Soveraigne did voluntaryly and freely list himselfe a soldier in ye Garrison of Newarke vnder ye command of Capt[ain] Christopher Beresford yo[u]r poore Petitioner being commanded out to seuerall field fights and other martiall attempts receaued seuerall shots and wounds to ye great dammage and hassard of his life and also did continue faithfull to his com[m]and did not leaue ye service vntill ye surrender of Newarke
Wherefore yo[u]r poore petitioner would humbly desire yt yo[u]r Honnors would be pleased to Admit him one of his Majestyes pentitioners as a maymed and distressed soldier and he will ever pray &c
he hath served in my Company ever since his Majestyes Gratious returne.
