The petition of John Brocklehurst of Alderwasley, Derbyshire, c. 1662

To the Right Hon[oura]ble and Wor[shipfu]ll his Ma[jes]ties Justices of the Peace for the County of Darby at their Quarter Sessions Assembled
The humble Petic[i]on of John Brocklehurst of Alderwasley in the said County Labourer humbly sheweth
Whereas yo[u]r said Peticioner haueinge beene a Souldier for his late Ma[jes]tie of euer Blessed Memory: vnder the Com[m]and of Captaine John Lowe of Alderwasley in the said County Esq[ui]r[e] lately deceased, and in the said service Receiueing hurts and Bruses: togather with old Age beinge become altogather vncapable of obtaineinge a Liuelyhood by his hand labor, and beinge informed his Ma[jes]tie is Gratiously pleased to bestow Penc[i]ons of Faithfull and Loyall Indigent Souldiers: yo[u]r Peticion[e]rs humble request is that yo[u]r Honours and Worships would be pleased to allowe him such a p[ro]porc[i]on as you in yo[u]r Judicious Judgements shall thinke meete and conveniant for an obiect of soe much pitty.
And yo[u]r Peticioner as bound shall euer pray.
